Started January 2003, Maddies® Spay/Neuter Project in Dane County, Wisconsin provides low-cost spay/neuter surgery to the pets of qualified Dane County residents.
Administered by the Dane County Veterinary Medical Association, Maddies® Spay/Neuter Project enables Medicaid recipients to get their dogs spayed or neutered for $20 and their cats spayed or neutered for $10. Surgeries are provided through participating private practice veterinary hospitals. To date, twenty-four hospitals have enrolled in the program, and 636 surgeries have been performed.
Dane County is in southern Wisconsin and includes the city of Madison. The population is approximately 350,000.
